An original painting from one of my Wicklow walks — a friendly horse, a familiar landscape, and a little piece of Ireland to take home.

Somewhere along one of my walks in Wicklow, Ireland, I kept coming across this horse.
He has that lovely sort of character that makes you stop for a moment. Friendly, calm and seemingly quite happy to say hello to people passing by. So, naturally, I ended up painting him.
The Horse by the Lake is an original acrylic painting inspired by those everyday encounters you have when walking through the Irish countryside — the kind that are easy to overlook, but somehow stay with you.
I wanted the painting to feel like the horse himself: peaceful and familiar, but with plenty of personality.
I used a combination of expressive brushwork and palette knife painting to build up the surface. The palette knife creates thicker areas of texture and sharper contrasts, while the brushwork softens some of those edges and brings movement into the composition. There are layers of colour rather than one perfectly flat surface, so the painting changes subtly as the light moves across it.
And yes, there is a black frame. It has been given a second chance rather than sent off into the great framing graveyard. It works well as it is, but you can absolutely re-frame the artwork if you have something else in mind.

A little piece of Wicklow

For me, this painting is as much about the Irish landscape and those Wicklow walks as it is about the horse.
If you've visited Ireland, lived here, travelled through Wicklow, or simply have a soft spot for the Irish countryside, I wanted this piece to carry some of that feeling with it.

The painting comes framed in a black frame and is ready to hang as it is.
The frame has been given a second chance and is part of the artwork as presented. If you'd prefer a different style, the painting can of course be re-framed to suit your home.

Items will be shipped in 1-3 working days after receiving your order. All products are shipped from Co.Wicklow Ireland. Expected shipping time:

Refund Policy

Every order is handled with care and I want you to be 100% satisfied with your purchase.  If, for any reason, you are not, I offer a full refund (minus shipping and return shipping) within 7 days of receiving the artwork.  You must return the piece in the same condition in which it was received.
