A Quiet Elephant is an original acrylic painting built around that feeling of calm strength and gentle presence. Set against a soft blue background, the elephant becomes the natural focus of the piece, with the cool tones creating a peaceful, slightly dreamy atmosphere.

I wanted this painting to feel quiet rather than dramatic. The kind of artwork you notice when you walk into a room, then keep finding little details in when you look at it again.

The surface is built up using layering, underpainting and textured painting techniques. I deliberately allowed some of the colours and marks beneath the final layers to show through, giving the elephant's skin more depth and a slightly tactile, almost sculptural quality.

The texture is what gives the painting much of its character. Some areas are soft and understated, while others catch the light and create little changes across the surface.

Basically, a very large animal having a very peaceful moment.

The Feeling Behind It

The calm blue background creates a cooler, quieter atmosphere around the elephant, while the layered texture brings warmth and depth back into the subject.

I wanted the contrast between soft blue tones and the natural texture of the elephant to create something peaceful without becoming too delicate.

It has a contemporary feel, but the subject remains familiar and instantly recognisable.

Where it might live

At 45 × 65 cm, this is a substantial piece with enough presence to work as a focal point in a room.

It would suit a living room, bedroom, hallway, home office or calm contemporary interior, particularly alongside natural wood, neutral colours and soft furnishings.

And if you're an elephant lover, wildlife fan, or simply someone who likes artwork with a quieter mood, this one might feel right at home.
