The Shepherd’s Dream is an original acrylic painting created in 2026, with a quiet, dreamy character and a distinctly handmade feel. Inspired by the peaceful atmosphere and storytelling tradition of the Irish countryside, I wanted this piece to feel personal — something that makes you pause for a moment and imagine the story behind it.

There is something about Irish landscapes, old stories and rural life that naturally lends itself to paintings like this. I wanted to capture a little of that feeling by painting this charming little boy sitting on a sheep.

The painting is created with acrylic paint on canvas, using layered brushwork and visible texture to give the surface depth and character. I like leaving some of the marks and movement of the painting process visible. It keeps the work feeling like what it actually is — something made by hand, rather than something produced to look perfectly polished.

There is something rather lovely about a small painting with a big enough story to make you invent the rest yourself.

The Shepherd’s Dream would make a lovely piece of Irish art for anyone who has a connection with Ireland, loves the Irish countryside or simply enjoys artwork with a little story behind it.

It could also make a thoughtful Irish gift, especially for someone living abroad or missing home or somebody with Irish heritage .
